Letter To The Editor: Thanks For Covering The Lexington Beef Processing Plant Story

Dear editor: Thanks for going to Lexington. It isn't just about the jobs at the plant and the rendering facility. It's about who we are and where we live.

About 3,200 of Lexington, Nebraska’s 11,000 residents work at a huge Tyson Foods beef processing plant — for another month. News that the plant will close next month was an unexpected “gut punch” many fear will devastate this rural cow town.

Dear editor:

Greg Johnson, thanks for going to Lexington. It isn't just about the jobs at the plant and the rendering facility. It's about who we are and where we live.

Thirty years of care and diligence making this a really good place to raise calves and finish cattle. Of course, we can send beef to Gibbon, Grand Island, and North Platte.... That's not the point.

We're talking about our backyard. I've gone all the way to President Trump. If he cannot help us nobody can.

We want to buy the plant with no stipulations. Right is on our side. Want us to start a boycott Tyson chicken drive?

They only understand hardball. We're the block of wood. They are the table saw.

We don't have much leverage. We don't have much time. Keep me posted what I can do.

Thanks for caring. Merry Christmas.

Sincerely,

Jonathan V Bethard
