Dear editor:
In response to the article, "David Madison: The Wyoming Guy Who Killed The Unlimited Speed Limit In Montana" - my wife and I drove Montana highways during the "Montanabahn" era, and noticed that people didn't drive any different than they do now (with most speed limits at 75 mph.)
People still drive at pretty much whatever speed they feel comfortable with, and physics weeds the rest out.
Driving much faster than 75 mph uses a LOT more fuel and causes much more wear on the vehicle.
Going 125 mph (like the fellow in the article did) is only reasonable when you have a car that can safely handle that (which is usually VERY expensive) and have tires rated for those speeds.
If one wants to go that fast, their insurance should also reflect it, as if even the smallest thing malfunctions, it could be catastrophic at those speeds.
Sincerely,
Edward Meardon,
Elliston, Montana
