Be honest now.

None of us out here in the real world really believe that Democrats would ever make America more “affordable,” right?

Come on. Tell the truth.

No way!

We all know that Democrats, with their big hearts and vast faith in government, almost always want to spend more on everything except the military and tax cuts. And about half the Weak Sauce Republicans agree. That's how we racked up a national debt of $38 trillion. Getting re-elected ranks far above fiscal restraint on most Congressional agendas, and voters tend to reward politicians who “bring home the pork.”

Sad, but true. Something to think about when you bounce your cute little grandchild on your knee. Someday, that little cutie will end up with the bill. Or worse – an economic collapse. What can't go on forever, economists tell us, probably won't.

I've been voting since 1972 – first as a Democrat who didn't know any better, but then as a Republican as soon as I started earning a regular paycheck. It was a very small paycheck, so when government took a bite out of that small amount, I took it personally.

Over the years, I've voted in Illinois, Wyoming, Colorado, Illinois again, Nebraska and Wyoming again. And  it always seemed that Democrats never met a social program they didn't think was way under-funded. And they were always thinking up new programs to lay on top of a bunch of old programs, to accomplish the same pie-in-the-sky goals, while continuing to fund the old programs along with the new program.

And when folks came up with ways to limit tax increases, the Democrats (and again, about half the Republicans) strenuously opposed any spending limits at all. (I'm a veteran of “tax cap” fights in Illinois and Nebraska, two successful, one not.)

These are the people you Democrats think are going to make America more affordable?

Wake up, Democrat friends. Smell the coffee. This is preposterous.

(This notion is so ridiculous it could make your head spin. You might have to breathe into a paper bag for a while until the spinning stops.)

So, we're supposed to believe that the same people who brought us Obamacare 15 years ago, are now going to make America affordable? That's the health care train wreck that now can only exist with pandemic levels of government subsidies - to ward off big health insurance premium increases - long after the pandemic is over.

Those are the people who are going to make things better? Really? You just came up with this affordability bit because you hate Donald Trump (a guy who is actually MAKING America more affordable), right?

Answer me this: Those Democrats in Minnesota, who apparently let crooks make off with $1 billion in federal assistance funds, and maybe as much as $7 billion – are they going to play a role in solving the “affordability crisis” you're talking about?

That's quite a resume they have. How much money do you figure will disappear when those folks get involved in making America affordable?

Our liberal friends run most colleges and universities, where tuition and room and board increases have  far exceeded the rate of inflation. But we're supposed to believe those vastly-funded eggheads are going to suddenly cut costs for Americans?

Our Democrat friends were quiet when President Biden presided over an inflation rate of 9 percent, but they cry about affordability today, when Trump's team has inflation down to 3 percent. And we're supposed to believe that people with such a poor grasp of arithmetic are going to make expensive things affordable?

Come on. You're pulling our legs, right? You don't really believe this malarkey, do you?

These are the same people who strenuously opposed any effort to cut vastly wasteful spending back when DOGE was all the rage. Remember? They took to the streets and burned Elon Musk's Teslas in retaliation.

I think President Donald Trump said it best last week in Pennsylvania.

“Democrats talking about affordability,” he said, “is like Bonnie and Clyde preaching about public safety.”

Can't say it better than that. No way.

I rest my case, Your Honor.
