A semitruck driver is in jail over what the Wyoming Highway Patrol is calling a road rage incident in which the driver shot at a pickup truck multiple times on Interstate 80, roughly 20 miles east of Rawlins last Thursday.

In a statement released late Monday, the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) says troopers noted a bullet hole in the pickup truck's front passenger side door and learned that a child was in the back seat of the vehicle.

“Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident,” the statement reads.

The agency says the pickup was westbound on Interstate 80 at around mile marker 236 and was passing the semitruck.

“The semitruck driver allegedly brandished a firearm, pointed it out the driver-side window, pointed it at the pickup and fired the weapon multiple times,” the statement reads. “A driver in another passenger vehicle called in the incident soon after.”

The pickup driver pulled into the Wyoming Department of Transportation office in Rawlins and reported the incident, says the statement.

Troopers then spotted the semi at mile marker 190 and stopped the vehicle.

“Troopers conducted a probable cause search, and located a firearm in the truck, along with two spent rounds,” the statement reads, adding that the driver was then taken in to custody.

Charges are pending, the statement concludes.

This is a developing story.
