Dave Simpson: Not A Case Of Pots Calling Kettles Black

Columnist Dave Simpson writes, "While those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome have a long list of complaints, I contend this is not a case of pots and kettles. Far from the rudderless plight of the Democrats, Trump is racking up win after win."

We often hear that Americans need to “come together.”

Sounds nice.

But, if you ask me (and again, I notice you didn't), the huge philosophical gap between us just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Bigger, in fact, than the Gulf of America. (Does that trigger you, setting your hair on fire because Trump calls the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America? Ha, ha, ha. Cowboy Up, snowflake. As President Obama once said, “elections have consequences.”)

In last week's column, I placed my foot firmly in the Facebook bear trap, suggesting that the Democratic Party has a problem with crazy candidates saying and doing crazy things. That sparked a near-unanimous response from angry Facebook posters, pretty much summed up by this comment:

“Pot calls kettle black.”

So, are we Republican pots just as bad as Democrat kettles?

Nope.

Has a Republican dumped hot potatoes on the head of his or her spouse? Have we threatened to kill a political opponent and his kids? More importantly, have our nuts tried to kill a president twice in the last 18 months, in one case shooting a presidential candidate in the ear? (Negatory on all counts.)

Have we espoused the philosophies of Karl Marx? And did we run inflation up to a one-time high of 9.4 percent, like in the Biden Administration?
(No and No.)

So, while those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome have a long list of complaints (they hate everything about him), I contend that this is not a case of pots and kettles. And that far from the rudderless plight of the Democrats, Trump is racking up win after win.

You constantly hear from Democrats and the mainstream media that grocery prices are through the roof. But did you hear the latest from Walmart CEO John Furner last week? He said the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 this year will be down 25 percent from last year.

This goes along with my watch on local egg prices. A dozen eggs at Walmart cost $4.97 on Inauguration Day, or 41 cents per egg. This week, after steady price reductions, a dozen eggs at Walmart cost $1.97, or 16 cents per egg. That's a 61 percent drop in the price of an egg. (I believe economists call these “real prices.”)

We've heard a lot from Trump haters about the addition of a ballroom to the White House. They say Trump's “tearing down the White House.” Typical liberal hysteria. He's building a much-needed ballroom, at no cost to taxpayers, so those attending state dinners don't have to dine in a tent and relieve themselves in portable toilets. Previous presidents have cited the need for a gathering place for big events like state dinners.

On immigration, President Joe Biden, or his minders, allowed millions of undocumented aliens, many with criminal backgrounds, to stream into our country. It took Trump mere days to stop the flow of illegals, even though Biden said closing the border would require an act of Congress.

And today, Democrats and their friends in the Judiciary are doing everything they can think of to stop Immigration and Customs Enforcement from deporting those here illegally, starting with the most dangerous. Hysterical Illinois Gov. J.D. Pritzker called ICE officers “thugs.” (I'm so glad we fled my native Illinois 23 years ago.)

Government shutdown, you say? Just five Democrat votes in the Senate and it's over. So you can't hang that on Trump.

Overseas, Trump engineered the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza, and laid the groundwork for peace in the Middle East. This, and his work negotiating ends to wars around the globe make him a legitimate candidate for a Nobel Peace Prize next year.

What's not to like about stopping wars and freeing hostages? Safer streets in Washington, stock market highs, and lower gasoline prices. And all in just nine months.

For these, and plenty of other reasons, I contend that Republicans are not just as bad as the Democrats. Far from it.

I believe Wyoming voters were wise to do our part – despite the best efforts of Liz Cheney - to put Trump right back in the Oval Office.

In this case, I say the pot and the kettle are vastly different.
