Cheyenne's Sydney Kapp got the honor of representing Wyoming in the fourth season of the Fox Network game show, “The Floor,” hosted by actor Rob Lowe.
Kapp is one of two Wyoming contestants selected for a 100-person competition over trivia and territory on the game show that’s gaining traction in the United States.
It’s a trivia competition, but far from trivial for Kapp, which is why she hopes Wyomingites will tune in and enjoy her fun-filled journey.
“Wyoming has lots of reasons to tune in," Kapp told Cowboy State Daily. “The producers said this was the juiciest season they'd have ever filmed. It’s already a really fun game show, and there's a lot of a lot of fun moments and drama coming up.”'
"The Floor" is produced by Fox, which hasn't announced a full slate of this season's contestants. Who the other Wyoming contestant is wasn't known as of publication time.
Trivial Pursuit
“The Floor” first aired on the Fox Network in January 2024. It’s a game show where people compete in head-to-head duels in the form of trivia contests, one-upping their opponents with knowledge and eventually eliminating them.
“It's growing in popularity, but I would still say it's like a fairly new show to some people,” Kapp said.
The central gimmick is that all 100 contestants start on a floor of LED squares, representing their “territories.” The winner of each duel claims their opponent’s territory, thus slowly acquiring more of “The Floor.”
Duels are chosen by a “randomizer,” which opens every episode. Once the randomly selected contestant challenges someone in an adjacent tile, they engage in a trivial tug of war.
“You duel until there’s only one contestant left,” she said.
If that sounds confusing, Kapp can relate. She thinks her confusion was evident all over her face during the first episode they aired with her as a contestant.
“I was there for so long filming, and I'm still a little bit fuzzy,” she said. “I was confused about who inherited what category throughout. It was such a blur.”
I Volunteer As Tribute
Kapp, born and raised in Cheyenne, was watching an episode of “The Floor” in December 2024 when she decided to take a chance and answer the casting call. Most contestants are recruited, but Kapp was one of the few who successfully applied.
“It was a very split-second decision for me,” she said. “I had never played trivia before, but I watched a lot of the show, and it looked like a lot of fun.”
Kapp wasn’t expecting to be cast. She was flabbergasted when she was notified that she and another woman had been selected to represent Wyoming in the fourth season of “The Floor,” focused on United States history and trivia under the title “America Duels.”
“They chose two from every state, and it was a lot of fun to have the Equality State represented by two women,” she said.
For her part, Kapp was honored to represent Wyoming on “The Floor.” Her home state means a lot to her.
“I have a lot of Wyoming pride,” she said. “A lot of people that I grew up with and are still living in Wyoming, and those who have moved away still have a really soft spot in their heart for our state. It’s a lot of fun to root along with your state and definitely makes you proud for how they're representing your state on the show.”
Filming for the fourth season of “The Floor” took 12 weeks. Despite being promoted as “America Duels,” Kapp said the entire shoot took place in a studio in Ireland.
“I guess it’s cheaper to fly 100 people plus staff to Ireland than it is to film in Los Angeles,” she said.
Choose Your Category
Each contestant “defends” a category that becomes the subject of their duel. A savvy contestant will choose a category that they’re knowledgeable in, and choose duels based on the categories other contestants are defending.
“We mentioned a couple categories that we wanted to represent based on our interests or our backgrounds, and they ultimately chose which one of those we would represent,” Kapp said.
Kapp represented the American Revolution. Other categories include state flowers, state slogans, real estate, “junkyard,” and things as specific as “Platinum Vinyl Albums,” “Pet Supplies,” and “Sandra Bullock Films.”
“It's a hodge-podge mix of categories,” she said. “Some categories, like the American Revolution, you really have to study for, while you don't know what to expect with others.”
Kapp might not be a trivia enthusiast, but she does a lot of research for her job as a search engine optimization specialist with Trager Grills. She felt that have her a “competitive edge” in the frantic research race to win “The Floor.”
“After watching the show, I thought it was something I could possibly do,” she said. “So, I thought, ‘Okay, maybe I’ll do great.’”

The Snark Lions
There’s more to “The Floor” than dueling trivia. Kapp described several elements of reality television that naturally crept their way into the game show.
“The two people behind me were my friend Austin, who was who had the category Arctic Circle, and my friend Emily, who was representing crime fighting duos,” she said. “We got really close and became ‘the Snark Lions,’ because we were being really snarky to everyone on the floor.”
Kapp also said there would be several “familiar faces” making appearances on “The Floor.” Several celebrities and popular internet influencers appear on the show, either as contestants or cameos.
One of the contestants in the fourth season is Jonny Fairplay, a notorious villain from two seasons of “Survivor.” Bo Bice, the runner-up to Carrie Underwood on fourth season of “American Idol” also makes an appearance.
Kapp said she got very close with all the contestants and enjoyed the “summer camp vibe” they shared on and off camera. They’re still keeping in touch as the fourth season airs.
“When you're forced into this weird experience, you all trauma bonds together,” she said. “I don't think I've ever had more fun and more stress at the exact same time.
And Kapp got to meet and spend some time with celebrity host Rob Lowe.
“He’s a really nice guy,” she said. “Just as beautiful and charismatic in person.”
Wyoming Pride
The first episode of the fourth season of “The Floor” premiered on Sept. 24. The 36-episode season will air every Wednesday on Fox at 6 p.m. MST and is available on Hulu on Thursday.
Kapp hopes Wyomingites will tune in for “The Floor” as it continues through its fourth season. They have two Wyoming contestants to root for, and it’s an all-around fun experience.
“I highly encourage people to watch,” she said. “You get to root on your state, and you don't have to be the smartest person in the room or have played trivia to have a really good time. We all had a lot of fun doing the show, and it’s a fun show to watch.”
Kapp couldn’t disclose any details about her saga on “The Floor,” or whether she wiped the floor with the other contestants. She promised that there would be “a juicy season” for anyone that watches.
“There are a lot of fun moments and drama coming up,” she said. “I don't want to toot my own horn, but the producers did say that we had the most fun of any season they'd filmed, and Wyoming has a lot of reasons to tune in.”
