CASPER — The Natrona County Coroner’s Office reported Thursday that it’s performed an autopsy on the 34-year-old man shot and killed outside a Casper convenience store Sunday.
The agency also reports it has identified the man as Evander James Eagleroad of Riverton, Wyoming.
Coroner James Whipps in a news release reports that “scientific identification” was used to learn his identity.
An office spokesperson said the identification was based on fingerprints that were matched to a law enforcement database.
“Next of kin has been notified,” Whipps said.
Wyoming court records show 10 lines representing various encounters Eagleroad has had with the court system starting in 2016 and running through this year. The encounters were all misdemeanors or traffic citations.
His last encounter involved a charge of theft under $1,000 out of Riverton based on his actions Dec. 18, 2024. He was sentenced to 45 days in jail, given credit for 19 served and had the remainder suspended at his sentencing in March 2025. He was placed on six months unsupervised probation.
A hearing had been scheduled for Sept. 23 in that case.
Casper Police Department spokeswoman Rebekah Ladd said Thursday that the investigation into the shooting remains “active.” No arrests have been made.
“No update available today,” she said.

Police reported Sunday that an adult male suspect in the case had been detained for questioning.
Casper Police responded to the shooting at Max’s Convenience Store at 706 N. Center St. around 3:30 p.m.
Store clerk Brandon Wilder told Cowboy State Daily that his understanding of the incident was that the man who did the shooting was chased around a corner of the station in the parking lot.
Based on a video that his manager gave to police, Wilders said he understood two men and one woman were involved in chasing the man, who then turned and fired a weapon, striking who has now been identified as Eagleroad.
Ryan Hardman, who was driving north on Center Street Sunday afternoon, shared that he saw a man lift up his shirt, revealing a weapon.
He then laid on the sidewalk about a block south of the store after a Casper Police car passed by and then turned around toward him.
The incident is the sixth shooting in Casper and ninth in Natrona County this year. Eagleroad represents the fifth gunshot fatality in the city in 2025.
