CASPER — Local police continue to investigate the shooting death of a 47-year-old man in a home on the city’s south side Saturday.
Casper Police Investigations Lt. Scott Jones said the department continues to sort through evidence and work to corroborate facts related to the death of Jeremiah Wayne Reyes at a home in the 800 block of 53rd Street.
No arrests have been made and that all those involved in the case initially “detained,” according to a department report Monday, have been free since Sunday, Jones said.
He also declined to answer whether any “self-defense” claim is involved.
“We go where the evidence takes us and put that package together,” Jones said. “That’s not up to us, that’s for the prosecutor and the courts.”
Jones also declined to confirm whether the victim was a resident at the 53rd Street address or answer questions about the weapon, whether the weapon was brought into the residence or other facts about the case.
An online phone book lists Reyes as a resident of the 53rd Street address.
The department reported Monday that there was an initial 911 call from a “third party” around 5:45 p.m. that there was a “physical altercation” and argument at the residence and a male had gone there to intervene.
A second call from within the residence informed 911 dispatchers that Reyes had been shot.
“Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound,” the report said. “The male was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Death Scene Cleared
Jones said investigators and evidence technicians have completed their work at the 53rd Street home and it has been released.
Jones characterized the case as “complicated” and did not know when any decision would be made regarding any charges in the case.
“We still have work to do,” he said. “There is no timeline. It depends on how long it takes this process.”
The shooting death is the second one of the year in Casper.
On Feb. 12, a 16-year-old teen died from a gunshot wound in a home on the city’s east side as a trio of teens gathered to play video games.
