Dear editor:

Often, any government business is referred to as "the sausage being made" a reference to the, Normally, Boring workings of the government: funding, administration, vetting of bills and legal issues, and the processes that government follows.

The Wyoming State Legislature is not boring this year, which everyone should find terrifying. If things continue as they are, I hope all of us can make our own “sausage” because the current actions of our legislative body is running Wyoming out of meat.

I started watching and attending the House , Senate, and various Committee meetings during Legislative session over two decades ago.

I will admit that more that HALF of the rules of the legislature are a mystery to me. It takes years of learning , watching, reading and building relationships to understand these rules. In other words "making the sausage" is extremely complicated, and for good reason.

The State of Wyoming s funding and financial systems are the results of decades of work by our States most brilliant minds. This fiscal system is in place to help weather the boom and bust of Wyoming’s economy, designed with tedious care to cover fiscal needs in every possible thinkable situation to ensure that the State can function when the boom and bust happens.

Understanding this system is complicated, managing it even more so, in the past management decisions were made carefully , slowly, with thought out safeguards. This financial structure is in jeopardy due to a single legislative class of members who ........ don't seem to have read the cookbook.

In fact, instead of the usual fostering of relationships and working across aisles has been replaced with a strict agenda that while many agree with, myself included depending on the issue, seems designed to destroy Wyoming at least financially. Why?

Why are the experts being ignored and shunned, people who have worked for the state in official and unofficial capacity for decades being ignored? Why is our State Treasurer being ignored?

Why are people who have dedicated their lives to our states financial stability being completely ignored? Why are voters being ignored? Public hearing closed?

Bills assigned to different committees as soon as public opposition arises? How is the public supposed to interact with this body of “cooks”?

I do not know who is instructing these members of our legislative body. But I do know who I will blame when Wyoming runs out of sausage, the evidence is on YouTube now, I encourage you all to tune in.

If they are looking to steal Wyoming "sausage making recipe" they are instead bleeding the state of Wyoming of meat to make sausage with, why?

I honestly have no idea what these new "cooks" in the kitchen are up to, but I know they are not “cooking” for the State of Wyoming. Apparently this new 'secret' recipe for Wyoming sausage is top secret. Or possibly the new recipe is “ The weak are meat and the strong do eat!“

Sincerely,

Julie McCallister, Rock River
