Update 4:15 p.m.: Repeated phone calls and an email to Cody Police Chief Jason Stafford weren't returned and the department hasn't updated its initial report released about 8 a.m. Thursday. This story has been updated to reflect other questions about the incident Cowboy State Daily posed.

The discovery of homemade explosive devices at a home on Musser Road in Park County east of Cody prompted a multiagency response from local, state and federal law enforcement, the Cody Police Department reported Thursday morning.

As of that report, the investigation was active and included agents from the CPD, Park County Sheriff’s Office, Regional Bomb Team and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

All “are actively involved in the operation,” according to the report, which as that the agencies “believe there is no threat to the community at this time.”

Even so, people are encouraged to “avoid the area to allow law enforcement personnel to conduct their work safely and efficiently.”

The investigation began when law enforcement discovered “potentially illegally possessed firearms and firearm equipment at a residence,” the CPD report says. Also allegedly found were “homemade explosive devices.”

“In response, several search warrants were executed to ensure public safety and further investigate the situation,” the report says. “Additional law enforcement personnel will remain in the area today to support ongoing operations.”

It wasn’t immediately known what type of explosive devices were allegedly found. It also wasn’t reported if authorities have a suspect or if an arrest has been made, nor which agency is in charge of the investigation.

Other questions Cowboy State Daily has asked of the Cody Police Department include:

If there has been arrest, is that person being held at the Park County jail?

How did this incident get onto the radar of law enforcement?

How many homemade explosives were found?

Any indication of a motive for making them and/or potential to use them?

The investigation remains active and the CPD promises “further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is available.
