Dear editor:
At the end of World War Two many countries were committed to the idea of eliminating or limiting war in the future.
The 51 original members of the United Nations wanted to have an institution that would foster international understanding, promote peaceful resolution of international problems and promote the betterment of mankind.
What a wonderful dream it was! Then in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s many formerly colonial countries became members of the U.N. Countries like Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, Chad, Viet Nam, Syria, Cambodia, Congo, Zimbabwe, Cuba and Venezuela, North Korea and a host of other countries opposed to democracy, free speech, freedom of religion, a free press and fair and free elections became members of the United Nations.
Most of these ‘post-colonial’ countries are failed states, dictatorships, despotisms, military juntas and corrupt, thieving, oppressive governments that care more for the welfare of the small ruling elites than for their people.
There are now over 50 majority Moslem countries in the U.N. representing the world’s two billion (with a B) Moslems. There are too many dictatorships, despotisms, tyrannies and juntas to count in the U.N.
There is only one little Jewish majority nation, a democratic nation with fair and free elections, free speech, free press and freedom of religion and about 40% of the world’s sixteen million Jews and with most of the world’s religious Jews. That country is Israel.
In the 1990s, with the break-up of the Soviet Union, another dozen or so countries still aligned with Russia and its murderous dictator, countries such as Kyrgistan, Khazakstan, and Uzbekistan, became members of the U.N. while more democratic countries in Europe, such as Norway, Ireland and Portugal became opposed to American leadership and ambivalent about dictatorship.
Many of the European countries, including France and England, suffered an invasion of Moslems who were not interested in acculturating to Western values but who intended to bring Islamic values to Europe.
Russia and China and their allies and the majority Moslem states recognized that Israel and the U.S. were close allies and knowing that they could not eliminate the United States, took up the cause of eliminating Israel and embarrassing the U.S. As a result since the 1960s there has been an automatic majority in the U.N. to vote against Israel on every real or imagined issue including invented ones.
That was bad enough, but it has gotten worse. America’s enemies, Israel’s enemies and the enemies of democracy and freedom have weaponized the institutions of the United Nations making the U.N. an active enemy of Israel.
Although multiple U.N. agencies are involved in attacking and undermining Israel, including UNESCO and UNIFIL, and the fake U.N. ‘courts’ the chief U.N. agency that the Israel-haters, Jew-haters and haters of democracy deploy against Israel is UNRWA.
UNRWA is one of two agencies that the UN created to deal with refugees. The other U.N. refugee agency, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has a strict set of rules.
In UNHCR rules, a person who has been forced to leave his country is a refugee but only until he is settled or obtains citizenship elsewhere. Children and other descendants of a refugee born in the new home country are not refugees.
The purpose of the High Commissioner for Refugees is to help people resettle and go on with their lives. The UNHCR does not encourage any refugees to try to reconquer the land from which they came nor does the UNHCR encourage people to become multi-generational welfare recipients.
The UNHCR does not help refugees teach hatred to their children, wage war against any country or turn refugees’ children into terrorists or permanent welfare recipients. The UNHCR deals with all refugees from all countries all over the world except Arabs who claim to be refugees from Israel.
UNRWA was created to deal with only one refugee group, the Arab refugees from Israel, the so-called ‘Palestinians.’ For this group the U.N. created special rules. Anyone who claimed to be an Arab refugee from Israel was a refugee.
Not only was the person who left Israel a refugee, so are his children, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren and so on until the end of time.
This was despite the fact that many Arabs left Israel willingly rather than be ruled by Jews (and so were not ‘refugees’ as a matter of necessity) and that a substantial number of Arabs remained in Israel after Israel was created so that there are now two million Arab citizens of Israel who are not refugees and who are the most prosperous Arabs of the Middle East other than those who live in oil-rich countries.
For instance, the millionaire American real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and his daughters, the perpetually Jew-hating and Jew-slandering models Bella and Gigi Hadid who were born in the U.S. and who are American citizens are considered refugees by UNRWA although they are multi-millionaire American citizens and would not be considered refugees by UNHCR.
There are probably less than 150,000 actual Arab refugees from Israel in the world today, but because the U.N. counts children, grandchildren, great grandchildren etc. of Arabs as refugees (unlike the people who are refugees from any other place) the U.N. dishonestly claims there are over five million Arab refugees from Israel.
More than that, UNRWA has taught, funded and assisted terrorism against Israel by Hamas, Hezbollah and other murderous groups. UNRWA was the largest employer in the Gaza strip until October 7, 2023 when Hamas terrorists, most of whom attended UNRWA schools raped, kidnapped and murdered their way across southern Israel.
The great majority of the young people of Gaza for four generations were educated in UNRWA schools. Those schools taught hatred of Jews and Israel and that the Jews did not belong in the Middle East but were foreign invaders who should be killed or expelled from the Middle East.
UNRWA teachers were active members of Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon and too many UNRWA teachers actually participated in the savage rapes, kidnapping and murders of October 7, 2023. Even when an UNRWA employee was not an actual Hamas operative, many UNRWA employees were and are the spouses and close family members of Hamas operatives so that UNRWA helps provide a family income to the families of terrorists, rapists, murderers and kidnappers thereby supporting Hamas by relieving it of the responsibility of providing a living wage to its fighters and other operatives.
In teaching hatred of Jews and Israel, employing actual rapists, kidnappers and murderers and supporting the families of such people, UNRWA has helped to perpetuate the grievances of Arabs and encouraged them to kill Israelis.
After the bloody and gruesome attack of October 7, 2023 many UNRWA teachers, nurses and other employees openly celebrated the deaths and dismemberment of Jews that day on social media. One UNRWA employee even encouraged Hamas to murder all the Jewish hostages.
Not a single UNRWA teacher or school principal expressed shock, horror or regret at what their former students had done. Some of the Israeli captives who have been released and rescued have proven to have been held in the homes of UNRWA employees in Gaza. During Hamas’s war against Israel Hamas fighters routinely hid out and stored weapons and operated command centers from UNRWA hospitals, schools and clinics.
Hamas’ main computer data center was directly underneath UNRWA’s central office in Gaza City, sharing an electricity supply with UNRWA. Israel and a private non-profit organization called U.N. Watch have complained about UNRWA’s close connection to Hamas to UNRWA and to the U.N. repeatedly. UNRWA and the U.N. have always either not responded to complaints, feigned ignorance of the situation or said they would look into it and then did nothing except belittle Israel and U.N. Watch, claiming that Israel and U.N. Watch were ‘smearing’ them. UNRWA has become little more than an Arab welfare agency that supports war against Israel.
But UNRWA is not alone as a UN agency that subverts peace in the Middle East. At the end of Hezbollah’s second war against Israel in 2006, part of the peace agreement was that a U.N. force of multinational soldiers would occupy southern Lebanon between the Israeli border and the Litani River, about 18 miles north of the Israeli border. U.N. Resolution 1701 called for this.
The purpose of the UN force, named the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was to prevent Hezbollah from re-arming in that eighteen mile stretch and from shooting rockets, missiles and artillery into Israel from there. The UNIFIL force consists of about 10,000 troops, mostly from Europe and from Moslem majority countries. During the entire time, from 2006 to 2024, UNIFIL did nothing to prevent Hezbollah from rearming, building fortifications, digging tunnels for making war, firing artillery, rockets and missiles into Israel and preparing for ground invasion of Israel. UNIFIL was worse than useless because it claimed to be ‘peacekeepers’ but did not even try to keep the peace. Unarmed tourists would have been better at keeping the peace and preventing Hezbollah from re-arming than UNIFIL.
After Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023 Hezbollah at the bidding of its Iranian masters increased its daily routine of rocket and artillery fire at Israel which displaced approximately 70,000 Israelis from their homes in the northern Israel.
The most accurate count that anyone has is that between October 8, 2023 and October 1, 2024 Hezbollah fired over 8,000 rockets, missiles and artillery shells into Israel.
Finally, in September, 2024 the Israeli army went to Lebanon and did what the UNIFIL ‘peacekeepers’ were supposed to do for the last eighteen years. The Israeli army began to dismantle not only Hezbollah’s military bases and installations between the Israel border and the Litani River, but also began to dismantle Hezbollah itself, first with exploding beepers, then with attacks on Hezbollah headquarters and operations in Beirut and then by eliminating the murderous mullah who was the head of Hezbollah.
Like Hamas, Hezbollah embeds itself amongst civilians so that they can complain about civilian casualties which they cause. UNIFIL had one job, to prevent attacks on Israel, and UNIFIL failed to do it.
The U.N.’s reaction to Israel having to do what UNIFIL was supposed to was not to apologize for the U.N.’s obvious, abject and deadly failure, but to accuse Israel of putting UNIFIL soldiers in harm’s way by Israel defending itself against Hezbollah. In response Israel invited UNIFIL to leave southern Lebanon since the U.N. claimed to be worried about UNIFIL soldiers being hurt but UNIFIL refused to leave, preferring to stay and whine.
As if supporting and employing terrorists and pretending to be peacekeepers while allowing attacks on Israel was not enough, the U.N. has also deployed its fake courts to wage war against Israel. South Africa, a corrupt sewer of racism and poverty with 32% unemployment has enough resources to bring a case against Israel in the so-called International Court of Justice even though a third of its people are unemployed.
That court has heard no evidence but only speeches by pontificating and prevaricating politicians condemning Israel for defending itself against Hamas in Gaza.
In another U.N. “court” the “International Criminal Court” the Pakistani Moslem prosecutor who is now a British citizen seeks to have arrest warrants issued for the prime minister and defense minister of Israel, but has taken no serious action against the October 7 rapists, kidnappers and murderers nor against such perpetual human rights violators as China, Myanmar, Yemen and Iran where women are beaten to death in prison for not wearing Muslim headscarves properly in public and people who have demonstrated for a more open society are shot and jailed by the thousands.
There are those who think that the U.N.’s war against Israel is merely situational and about the Moslem and other hatred of Israel and Jews.
Others, like the thoughtful British social critic, author and journalist Douglas Murray believe that the U.N.’s open and notorious misconduct regarding Israel is part of a larger pattern, part of a war against the West, against Western Civilization by the corrupt and backwards states that hate freedom, democracy, the values for which the West stands and that Israel is just on the front lines of that struggle.
In either case it is important to realize how far the U.N. has descended from the high hopes that civilized nations once held for it and how the U.N. is no longer a beacon of peace, international co-operation and hope but a cesspool of hatred, envy, dishonesty and sometimes even an active participant in the ugly behavior of some of its corrupt member nations.
Sincerely,
Michael Krampner
