Dear editor:
In response to Rod Miller's column, The “Nouveaux Elite” And Democracy By The Numbers In The 307:
He asserts that low voter turnout is due to suppression or not making voting more accessible, therefore allowing a small set of “elites” to control everything.
He has misinterpreted the situation.
If people are not willing to expend any effort or time to understand the candidates and issues, or even cast a ballot, then it’s better they do not vote.
An uneducated voter will either randomly choose a candidate, vote party line, or be easily swindled by whoever makes the best sounding campaign promises.
Pushing people who otherwise wouldn’t care into voting is a solution to a non-existent problem, and may end up causing more harm than good.
