U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman easily coasted past challenger Steve Helling of Casper on Tuesday in the Republican primary.

The race between Hageman and Helling was never in doubt, as Hageman has maintained strong popularity since beating former congresswoman Liz Cheney in the 2022 election by 38 percentage points.

She is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, one of the most significant committees in the U.S. House.

During her two years in office, Hageman has made a name for herself on the committee and the conservative landscape for being an outspoken advocate for First Amendment issues and her belief that the federal government is overstepping its authority.

She also serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources.

Within that committee, she is the chair of the Subcommittee on Indian and Insular Affairs, where she has been a vocal advocate for Native American rights.

Helling, who ran as a Democrat for Congress in 2022, didn’t start campaigning in earnest until this summer. He caught some heat earlier this month when he falsely claimed former President Donald Trump endorsed his campaign.

Trump endorsed Hageman’s campaign this spring, and she endorsed his 2024 bid for president in early 2023.

Hageman told Cowboy State Daily she's grateful for the people of Wyoming entrusting her to serve in Congress and that she promises to never forget who sent her there.

"We have fought many battles together, and there are many more to come as we defend our great state and proud nation against radical activists who are trying to destroy us from within," she said.

Hageman said America must not take its eyes off the prize.

“We must redouble our efforts to rebuild our economy, produce our own energy, secure our national borders, and protect our communities," she said. "We must fight for our rights to farm and ranch on our own lands, to access our minerals and natural resources, and to pursue happiness without interference from a meddlesome federal government still permeated by unelected bureaucrats with too much authority. And we must fight to re-elect President Trump, who understands the challenges we face here at home, and supports our right to self-determination."
