Dear Editor,

Focusing two news articles on a card game between Bill Gates and citizens in Kemmerer, Wyoming makes light of what Mr. Gates plans to do (June 11 and 12, 2024). It reflects celebrity-style reporting.

Billionaire Bill Gates Lands In Kemmerer For Nuclear Plant, Then Plays Poker

Inside The Bill Gates Poker Game In Kemmerer

As a billionaire, Bill Gates is no ordinary Kemmerer resident. He lives in a 66,000 square foot mansion in the state of Washington and has connections and privileges the average person could only desire.

Ironically, Bill Gates plans to build a nuclear power plant using “new” technology in Wyoming, the leading state in coal production and one with innovative businesses in carbon sequestration.

Cowboy State Daily needs to inform its readers on both the benefits and disadvantages of nuclear power. Too many of its articles have been written as though the newspaper is Mr. Gate’s promotional tool, instead of what it should be, an unbiased information source.

As a Cowboy State Daily reader, I would prefer articles that delve deeper into the issues.

Topics could include how this “new” technology will benefit Wyoming or possibly steer us in the wrong direction, what are the true life-cycle costs of nuclear power from uranium mining to fuel cell disposal, how does nuclear power’s costs compare with those of Wyoming’s current energy industries, and how much nuclear waste will be produced and stored in Wyoming because of this “new” technology.

There are many issues on nuclear power the Cowboy State Daily could explore to better inform its readers. This is what I would like to see from your publication.
