Riverton, Wyoming, police arrested a 55-year-old local man Thursday in connection with the death of a woman who was found dead in a house fire late last month.

Riverton Police Department agents responded to a house fire early April 26, after hearing that a woman was trapped inside with the flames. Investigators found 48-year-old Eve Newton, of Riverton, dead inside the home, but deemed the fire suspicious, according to RPD statements.

Detectives converged on the scene after officers reportedly found signs of accelerants — or fire starters — within the home.

"The results of an autopsy is (sic) still pending," says the most recent RPD statement, dispatched to the media Thursday afternoon.

An involuntary manslaughter arrest warrant for Vurnon Doney, 55, of Riverton, was issued, and he was reportedly arrested at a home on Blackfoot Avenue and booked into the Fremont County Detention Center on Thursday.

More information about what led investigators to suspect Doney wasn’t immediately available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Don Nethicumara at 307-856-4891.
