Warning: This report contains video of animal mistreatment some may find disturbing. View at your discretion.
Two brief, but disturbing, videos provided to Cowboy State Daily on Wednesday evening by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department show a wolf that had been captured and tormented languishing on the floor in a building.
The video confirms some of the details of earlier reports of a wolf being captured, having its mouth taped shut and displayed in a bar before being killed.
Documents provided by Game and Fish in response to a public records request also confirm the identity of the man involved as Cody Roberts of Daniel, Wyoming. Game and Fish had previously acknowledged that an individual had been cited for illegal possession of a live wolf and fined $250, but did not identify the perpetrator by name.
Disturbing Video Clips
In the video clips, an exhausted and pathetic-looking wolf can be seen languishing on the floor in an undisclosed location. In one clip, the animal has a muzzle on its face and what appears to be a collar on its neck.
In another clip, the animal’s face isn’t fully visible, but it can be seen moving its eyes and one of its hind legs.
The wolf in the videos bears a strong resemblance to the animal in a photograph previously obtained by Cowboy State Daily — with its muzzle taped shut and Roberts posing next to it.
Warden’s Report
Game and Fish also provided a brief incident report from game Warden Adam Hymas, with several parts of it redacted. Roberts’ date of birth is redacted, but information previously obtained by Cowboy State Daily indicates his age is 42.
The report names Roberts as the person who “stated he did possess a live wolf on 2/29/24.”
Roberts told wardens that he had the wolf at his house and “later transported it to a business in Daniel, WY,” the report says.
According to accounts of the incident by an anonymous source, the business was a local bar.
The report also states that: “On 3/4/24 ROBERTS agreed to meet with warden Haley and myself in Pinedale, which he did with a lawyer present. The violation for possession of a live wolf was explained to ROBERTS at that time.”
The report also verifies that the disposition of the case was “guilty” and a $250 fine was issued.
