A juvenile was stabbed to death and others are being detained by Casper police after an altercation at the Eastridge Mall on Sunday afternoon.

The Casper Police Department has confirmed that a youth was gravely hurt during the melee and was pronounced dead at Banner Wyoming Medical Center.

“This is still very much an (ongoing) investigation,” CPD spokeswoman Amber Freestone told Cowboy State Daily on Sunday evening.

Multiple juveniles were involved in the fight, and the person who died had injuries “consistent with a stabbing,” she said.

Nobody has been arrested, but Casper police were actively interviewing potential suspects and witnesses as of Sunday evening, Freestone said.

‘They’re Being Detained’

“No one has been arrested yet,” she said. “They’re being detained, but no one has been arrested yet.”

Freestone said she believes “the mall did go into lockdown,” and as of 9:30 p.m., “the scene has been released.”

Although CPD vehicles responding to the mall parked near large signs for Dick’s Sporting Goods, Freestone said the incident did not happen in that store.

“That was just a convenient entrance” to park at, she said. “It did not happen in Dick’s.”

The investigation is still in the early stages, Freestone said, adding that Casper police continue to get calls and reports from people who possibly witnessed the altercation or has other information about it.
