A man found dead early Monday morning near a church in Riverton had “possible signs of trauma,” police say.

William Yellowrobe, 51, was found lying on the side of the road near the Saint James Episcopal Church on North Sixth Street, the Riverton Police Department said in a Friday statement.

Detectives are now asking residents and business owners from that area to reach out if they have security footage from their homes or businesses. The detectives’ phone number is 307-856-4891, the statement says.

Police have learned that “someone in the area may have heard a disturbance” Sunday between 3 and 9 p.m., the statement says.

They found Yellowrobe, dead, the following morning, wearing a cap, blue jacket, blue jeans and carrying a black backpack.

The body is scheduled for an autopsy this week, says the statement.

Wind River, Billings

Yellowrobe graduated from the St. Stephens Indian High School on the Wind River Indian Reservation in 1991, according to his Facebook page.

He had lived recently in Billings. Multiple people mourned him in public statements to their social media pages this week.
