Three cheers for the Casper Fire Department.
A dog was stranded on an icy island in Whitewater Park area of the North Platte River on Saturday afternoon and had no place to go.
The fire department was dispatched to rescue him and were successful in their efforts.
They report officers deployed their Rapid Deployment Craft (a rubber boat) to the island, picked up the dog, and transferred him to a Metro Animal Police Officer to safety.
The fire department wasn't alone in its efforts. They were joined by the Casper Police and the Public Safety Communications Center.
Little else is known about the rescue or the dog. Calls and emails to the fire department were not returned.
The organization is using the incident to remind citizens to keep pets on a leash when near rivers.
In the case when a pet does go into the water not to attempt a rescue.
"Never go after it," they said in a release. "Promptly call the proper authorities and keep eyes on the animal."
