A man died in the hospital one day after a Chevy Equinox struck him in a busy and rainy Casper intersection just after dark, authorities say.
The Natrona County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the victim to Cowboy State Daily as 59-year-old Charles Goldner Landrum, of Casper.
The Casper Police Department received multiple calls just before 9 p.m. Monday, from people reporting a traffic crash involving a pedestrian at CY Ave. and Wyoming Blvd. in Casper, Wyoming, according to a Friday press release by the agency.
The Chevy Equinox was headed west and approaching an intersection when a man walked into the street and was struck by the vehicle, the Wyoming Highway Patrol reported.
Officers responded to the scene and found Landrum unresponsive and lying prone in the street. They began administering CPR. Natrona County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrived and helped with emergency care until emergency medical personnel arrived.
Personnel took the Landrum to Banner Medical Center.
He died the next evening, Tuesday.
Police are still investigating the incident but, the statement adds, the driver did not appear to be impaired.
“(Be) mindful of pedestrians in parking lots and on roadways,” wrote the police department. “Slow down in parking lots and be alert! Moments of distracted driving can be deadly.”
The police department thanked the sheriff’s office, the Casper Fire Department and the hospital for “effective teamwork.”
Wet And Raining
The Wyoming Highway Patrol reported that the crash involved one vehicle, and two other people who were not injured.
The roads were wet and it was raining, the crash report adds.
