Dear editor:
Your 06-28 newsletter cartoon showed homeless veterans saying "It would be nice if they remembered us in between Memorial Day and Veterans Day."
The current budget of the federal Department of Veterans Affairs is over $300 billion. I recall when our entire federal budget was less than a third of that, in nominal dollars.
It is also now clear that areas that spend more money helping the homeless have been getting worse outcomes and worse quality of life for their people.
The number of government and private programs for veterans is countless.
Whatever problems still exist in veterans' programs, lack of money and lack of attention are not among them.
