A first responder was killed and another was critically injured on Wednesday morning when a semitrailer collided into an ambulance where the responders were attending to a two-vehicle crash.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol said the fatal crash happened at milepost 197, westbound on Interstate 80 west of Rawlins at about 4:15 a.m.
The first responders were attending to another crash involving a semitrailer and a pickup pulling a small enclosed trailer when the 2019 Freightliner struck the responders and smashed into the back of the ambulance.
The first responder, a member of the ambulance crew on scene, who sustained fatal injuries has been identified as 29-year-old Tyeler Harris of Saratoga.
The driver of the tractor-trailer that crashed into the original incident scene has been identified as Saviol Saint Gean, of Brooklyn, New York.
Driver inattention is being investigated as a possible contributing factor of the crash.
“With respect for the families involved, additional details are not being divulged at this time,” the Wyoming Highway Patrol said. “We would like to ask that same respect be reciprocated by the community.”
Tyeler leaves behind his wife Ashley and their three kids. His family is asking for help paying for a funeral, and making sure the kids have everything they need.
