Wyoming no longer has the fewest monkeypox cases in the nation, as the Wyoming Department of Health detected two more cases Tuesday.

The state now has four cases total, Kim Deti, Wyoming Department of Health spokeswoman, told Cowboy State Daily in a text Tuesday. Like the first two cases, the newest two are both adult males, but their infections are not connected. One is from Natrona County and the other is from Campbell County, Deti said.

On Friday, Wyoming was tied with South Dakota for fewest cases at two, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Wyoming health care providers have administered more than 160 first doses of monkeypox vaccine and more than 75 second doses, Deti said.

Residents or workers in Wyoming who are eligible for pre-exposure vaccination include:

  • Men who have sex with men and who have had multiple or anonymous sexual partners in the last year.
  • Partners of such men.
  • Transgender and nonbinary people who are biologically male, who have sex with multiple or anonymous sexual partners.
  • Sex workers of any sex.

A Laramie County resident was the first confirmed Wyoming case of monkeypox announced Aug. 22, followed a week later with the second case, a Teton County man.
