Makeup mogul Jeffree Star is selling his California home and moving to Wyoming to become a full-time resident, he announced this week.
In a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday titled “Addressing My Mental Health…Selling My House and Getting Help,” Star noted that due to issues in his personal life and for his mental health, he will be selling his home and staying in Wyoming full-time to heal himself.
“This decision was astronomically hard,” Star said in the video. “I’m a very damaged person. I’ve been through so much trauma. And being in this big house is so lonely.”
He added that he has been suffering for depression for years and despite having one of the biggest years ever in 2019 for his makeup line, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, he was feeling miserable.
Star also ended his relationship that same year and two of his beloved dogs passed away during that time, he said.
Now, he said, he is ready to focus on himself and become a happier person.
Earlier this year, Star was involved in a rollover accident with his best friend just outside of Casper, where he currently lives. Star’s Rolls Royce hit some slush on the road, causing it to leave the roadway and roll multiple times.
He actually addressed the accident in the video, noting it was the first time he’d filmed a YouTube video without his back brace in more than a month. Star’s back was partially broken in the rollover.
“I think my accident really, really happened for a reason,” he said. “It was one of the most humbling experiences.”
Since the accident, he has continued making YouTube videos and working on new launches for Jeffree Star Cosmetics, which is worth more than $1.5 billion.
