U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney today said the Chinese government purposely let the coronavirus spread to the United States and the rest of the world.
Cheney, appearing on FOX & Friends Tuesday morning, said when China saw the spread of the virus in its own country, the government restricted domestic travel but let international travel continue.
“When they understood the economic devastation was going to be huge, I think they believed they would rather have that spread around the globe rather than it simply be something they suffered from,” she said.
For that, Cheney said the country must be held accountable.
“Clearly they cannot continue to be a member of the civilized community of nations because of what they’ve done and because of the lies,” she said.
Moving forward, Cheney said the U.S. must act to move supply chains away from China and restrict the country’s participation in certain affairs
“We have to take steps to ensure that they do not have the seat at the table that they have had in the past,” she said.
“We have to make sure we are defending ourselves and that the U.S. leads the free world. The world has to live by rules set by countries that believe in freedom and not set by the Communist Chinese party,” Cheney said.
