Air ambulance burns 10 6 26

A boy who was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on a rural road near Burns on Sunday was flown by air ambulance to a Colorado hospital.

He is in serious condition, Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozack told Cowboy State Daily.

Authorities are releasing few details about what happened and have not publicly named the boy or provided his age.

Laramie County sheriff’s deputies were called at 3:52 p.m. Sunday to the area of County Roads 213 and 147 in eastern Laramie County, Chief Deputy Perry Rockvam told Cowboy State Daily.

The intersection is a little more than a mile west of Burns.

Collision On County Road

Rockvam confirmed the boy was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle and was later flown to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado.

Both Kozack and Rockvam declined to describe how the collision occurred. They also declined to say what type of vehicle was involved.

“We’re trying to be as sensitive as we can to all those involved,” Rockvam said.

Kozack told Cowboy State Daily a drug recognition expert was called to the scene per protocol.

“We do not believe impairment was a factor,” he said.

Investigators are still looking into whether speeding was a factor in the crash, he added.

Rockvam said the collision happened on a paved road. He did not know whether the road has a shoulder.

The juvenile frequently rode his bicycle along County Road 213, according to Rockvam. He also could not say whether the boy lives nearby.

Traffic at the intersection of county roads 213 and 147 is controlled by a one-way stop sign.

Kelli Christensen, a spokesperson for the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, told Cowboy State Daily she was unable to give an update about the boy’s condition, citing his juvenile status and HIPPA laws.

The investigation remains ongoing.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we receive more information.
