CASPER — Two people are dead after what the Casper Police Department describes as a domestic-related shooting Friday night between two people who knew each other.
Around 7:20 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a museum parking lot at 400 East 15th St. for reports of a shooting.
“The incident tragically resulted in two losses of life, stemming from a domestic incident between two adults known to each other,” Casper police report.
Neighbors reported seeing investigative drones flying near the parking lot of the Werner Wildlife Museum while officers processed the throughout the night.
Police officers taped off sections of East 15th between Beech and Lincoln streets, blocking traffic as investigators worked the scene.
Authorities also report that the “alleged shooter is deceased” and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Beyond those details, nearly everything else surrounding the shooting remained unclear Saturday.
A request for more information to the Casper Police Department was not returned by publication.
What A Witness Saw
Casper resident Frederick Cook, who lives a half block from the Werner Wildlife Musuem at 405 E. 15th St., said that his wife heard police radios outside, so they looked out the window.
Police had blocked off the intersection of 15th and South Lincoln streets, and Cook said he could see a brown van that police had covered with a blanket in the museum’s parking lot.
He saw what he thought was officials removing a body from the van.
“I watched them pull a stretcher out here with a body completely covered with a sheet,” he said.
Cook said he watched them also take a dog out of the van that had been hanging out the window, and that he observed there was another car in the parking lot as well.
“Those were the only cars in the parking lot,” he said.
Cook said he and his wife also saw two women, one younger and one older, who had come running to the scene from the direction of South Durbin on 15th Street.
“I could hear the younger lady talking loudly to the cops and she had her arm around the older lady, and another guy comes screaming and yelling and hits the ground with his fists,” Cook said. “Apparently, he was also associated with whoever that was also.”
No Threat
Police have not officially identified either of shooting victim or other information, like a suspected motive, how the shooting unfolded, or confirmed the relationship between the two people involved other than they knew each other.
Police report there is no ongoing threat to the public and that more information will be released in the coming days as the investigation continues.
