University of Wyoming police are investigating a report of a man attacking a teenage girl Tuesday evening on the college’s campus.

Initial information indicates a man in black winter apparel allegedly approached a juvenile female and grabbed her by the shoulders near War Memorial Fieldhouse, according to a Wednesday statement by UW and a UW text alert.

The girl, who is a Laramie High School student athlete, reported that she was able to fight the man off and escape.

Then the man fled in an unknown direction, the statement relates from the report.

UW dispatched a text alert asking people in the area to keep a lookout for a person in a black beanie, black neck gaiter and black gloves.

Laramie High School sent out a parent notice about the reported incident Wednesday, clarifying the girl was unharmed.

The school said it is suspending sports practices on the UW campus “until we have refined our safety protocols, allowed the police an opportunity to investigate that, and further communicate with our stakeholders,” says the parent-notification text.
