A Texas resident driving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 ended up in a pond near Laramie on Friday after driving too fast on icy roads.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol reports, troopers were alerted to a crash just west of Laramie on Interstate 80 at about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Troopers determined that a commercial truck was headed west on the interstate, which was covered with ice, when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The tractor and trailer exited the roadway’s right side, colliding with a fence and guardrail before coming to a stop in an adjacent pond.

The driver, who was not identified by the Highway Patrol, sustained minor injuries, but was able to swim to shore. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie for injuries sustained.

The WHP is investigating the driver for going too fast for road conditions.
