Wyoming singer-songwriter and former rodeo cowboy Chancey Williams got the chance to meet one of the biggest rock stars of the last 40 years this week before performing his last concert in Las Vegas.

Williams posted a photo of himself with Motley Crue singer Vince Neil on Wednesday, both wearing impressive cowboy hats, and referenced one of Motley Crue’s biggest songs, “Kickstart My Heart.”

“To help kickstart our hearts for our last show in Vegas we’re hanging with the legendary Vince Neil at the Legacy of the West Gala,” Williams posted on social media.

Williams was honored with the “Legacy of the West” award during the fourth annual gala of the same name in Las Vegas on Wednesday. According to the Legacy of the West organization, the award goes to a person who upholds the legacy of the rodeo industry through ethics and leadership.

Prices to attend the fundraiser ranged from $50 to $5,000.

The show’s hosts, when announcing the awards and highlighting some of the winners, pointed to Williams’ song “The World Needs More Cowboys” as a particularly powerful anthem.

Legacy of the West is an organization that works to fight human trafficking.

Neil’s bandmate, bassist Nikki Sixx, is actually a Wyoming resident, and has regularly praised the state in interviews and on social media since he moved here. Earlier this year, Sixx posted a video of a moose that frequents his backyard.

“It’s his yard, we just get to use it…sometimes,” Sixx wrote in text on the video of the moose, which was soundtracked by the late Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers.”

Motley Cruë bassist Nikki Sixx is continuing his praise of Wyoming, hailing the lower cost of living, the outdoor recreation opportunities and the “no B.S. type of people” that are normally not found in Los Angeles.

Sixx gushed over his love of Wyoming in a recent radio interview with 95.5 KLOS, an LA-based radio station.

Host Marci Wiser asked Sixx what the vibe was like in Wyoming right now and whether or not he got out and saw people very often.

“It’s cheaper, no B.S. type of people, everyone is … extremely outdoors-driven…so because of that, everyone is extremely healthy,” Sixx said. “There’s no entertainment business here, so you’re not dealing with that type of stuff. You’re just dealing with blue collar people.”

Sixx and his family moved to Teton County earlier this year, and from his discussion with Wiser, it sounds like the move might be full-time and permanent.

Wyoming has been incredibly helpful for the musician’s creative process, he said, allowing him to explore other art forms such as painting and writing.

Obviously, nothing will keep Sixx away from touring (other than the pandemic), but he’s found himself at peace at his newfound home in Wyoming.

“I felt now was maybe time and Wyoming was a better place to raise my daughter, for sure,” he said.

Sixx’s adventures in Wyoming have been well-documented over the summer with fishing trips, days at the pool with his daughter, and other outings.

He said his most important mission in life right now is sobriety and helping people with sobriety.

Sixx said he was at a gas station in Wyoming recently when someone came up to him and thanked Sixx for his book “The Heroin Diaries” which documented his path to sobriety.

“The guy came up to me and said, ‘Man, I heard you moved here and I’m so stoked because I read your book,'” he said. “‘I had 14 overdoses and now I’m clean and sober.'”

“I know when I’m connecting with people like that, that I can feel like at the end of my life I did something that was actually important,” Sixx said.

Move over Kanye West, another musical celebrity is setting up camp in Wyoming.

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has decided to live — at least temporarily — in Wyoming, according to metal site MetalHeadZone.com.

Sixx’s wife Courtney posted a photo on her Instagram account Tuesday of the lovely head-banging family in a private jet with the caption: “Bye-bye L.A. Hello Wyoming.”

Whether it’s a permanent move or not, we don’t know.

We know the rocker is in Teton County because a trusted Cowboy State Daily reader from the Jackson area texted us.

“I just saw Nikki six from Mötley Crüe walking down my street,” the reader said. “He was with her and she was pushing a stroller.”

Perhaps the rocker will stay in Jackson for awhile now that the band’s world tour has been cancelled. Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts had been scheduled to begin touring in America on June 18.

Sixx announced the cancellation of the tour yesterday.

“The official decision has been made to move all 2020 North American Stadium Tour dates into the summer of 2021. The new stadium dates are being rescheduled, your tickets will be honored for all postponed shows and refund policy information will be made available shortly.

“Stay tuned, be safe and we will see you next year.”
