U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney said the United States should boycott the Beijing Olympics next year in protest of atrocities committed by the Chinese Communist Party.

During an interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show this week, Cheney spoke about U.S./China relations on a variety of topics, from the Olympics to the U.S.’ defense budget and more.

“I remember when we boycotted the Olympics, I guess it was the 1980 Olympics. And it’s terrible for our athletes. And I understand that,” Cheney said. “But what we’re facing right now, the alternative to boycotting the Olympics would be participating in a show that essentially be whitewashing what the Chinese Communist Party is doing around the world.”

U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Florida, introduced a resolution last month calling on the U.S. Olympic Committee to withdraw from the Beijing Olympics unless another site outside of China was found.

Cheney added the U.S. has been blinded and naive about the threat from China and that it would be a dereliction of duty to not be focused on being able to defend ourselves.

“I mean, in some areas, we can’t even say we’re going to have superiority, or that we have superiority anymore. We can get back to it, but not with Defense cuts, not with the Defense straight line number, even,” she said.

Cheney has been outspoken about her distrust of China and how the U.S. has an unstable relationship with the country.

She has spoken out against Disney working with China to film the live action “Mulan” remake there, as well as criticizing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for not being more assertive about U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, who unknowingly had connections to a Chinese spy.
