One of Wyoming’s newest residents — Nikki Sixx — is a rock star, an author, an avid outdoorsman — and now a bladesmith. Who knew?

In a recent Instagram post, Sixx showed off his knife-making skills by hammering a (literal) red-hot blade and hammering it with a sledgehammer.

The anvil he was using weighed 800 pounds and brought in from Germany, he said.

“#BeTheKnife,” Sixx wrote in his Instagram post.

Sixx was working with Corey Milligan from New West KnifeWorks, a Jackson-based company that sells hand-crafted knives.

We can’t say for sure if it was the same knife he was making earlier in the week, but an Instagram post from Sixx shared Sunday showed him holding a light blue knife with swirls in it.

As a fairly new Wyoming resident (Jackson, specifically), Sixx has spent the last few months hailing his new home and everything it has to offer.

“It’s cheaper, no B.S. type of people, everyone is … extremely outdoors-driven…so because of that, everyone is extremely healthy,” Sixx said in a Los Angeles radio interview in September. “There’s no entertainment business here, so you’re not dealing with that type of stuff. You’re just dealing with blue collar people.”

Wyoming has also been helpful for his creative process, allowing him to paint, write and apparently make knives.

There’s no word yet on if or when a knife line by Sixx will be released by New West, but we’d definitely line up to buy one from him.

In addition to making knives, Sixx posted on Sunday that he was working on a secret track with a “couple of bad asses,” but he didn’t say if this meant a new Motley Crue track or something else.

Motley Cruë bassist Nikki Sixx is continuing his praise of Wyoming, hailing the lower cost of living, the outdoor recreation opportunities and the “no B.S. type of people” that are normally not found in Los Angeles.

Sixx gushed over his love of Wyoming in a recent radio interview with 95.5 KLOS, an LA-based radio station.

Host Marci Wiser asked Sixx what the vibe was like in Wyoming right now and whether or not he got out and saw people very often.

“It’s cheaper, no B.S. type of people, everyone is … extremely outdoors-driven…so because of that, everyone is extremely healthy,” Sixx said. “There’s no entertainment business here, so you’re not dealing with that type of stuff. You’re just dealing with blue collar people.”

Sixx and his family moved to Teton County earlier this year, and from his discussion with Wiser, it sounds like the move might be full-time and permanent.

Wyoming has been incredibly helpful for the musician’s creative process, he said, allowing him to explore other art forms such as painting and writing.

Obviously, nothing will keep Sixx away from touring (other than the pandemic), but he’s found himself at peace at his newfound home in Wyoming.

“I felt now was maybe time and Wyoming was a better place to raise my daughter, for sure,” he said.

Sixx’s adventures in Wyoming have been well-documented over the summer with fishing trips, days at the pool with his daughter, and other outings.

He said his most important mission in life right now is sobriety and helping people with sobriety.

Sixx said he was at a gas station in Wyoming recently when someone came up to him and thanked Sixx for his book “The Heroin Diaries” which documented his path to sobriety.

“The guy came up to me and said, ‘Man, I heard you moved here and I’m so stoked because I read your book,'” he said. “‘I had 14 overdoses and now I’m clean and sober.'”

“I know when I’m connecting with people like that, that I can feel like at the end of my life I did something that was actually important,” Sixx said.

One of the most interesting pages we follow on Instagram is Motley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx because of his recent move to Wyoming.

Through that we see how the rocker and his family are adapting to or “conquering” the cowboy state as he might put it.

The latest involves a potential new hobby.

Our friend Doc Holliday at MyCountry 95.5 writes that Sixx has become an “avid fisherman.”

While we prefer the word ‘angler’ it does appear that the rockstar is enjoying the experience.

You might think that Sixx would prefer to fish with explosives and pyrotechnics but he appears to be doing it the traditional way.

On Monday, he was successful in his pursuit of trout as held up his catch for all to see.

“Great day on the Snake River with my son Decker,” he wrote.

He then told his wife to “fire up the grill, we’re coming home.”

But his comment might have been just for effect as Courtney Sixx responded: “Awww, you threw them back. I love you.”

Meanwhile his heavy metal buddies were more interested in trash-talking Sixx than expressing love.

John 5, a guitarist who has played with David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson, and Rob Zombie (among others) questioned the validity of the photo.

“I think that fish is fake,” John 5 said.

Heavy metal drummer Fred Coury, of Cinderella fame, doubted Sixx’s fishing chops as well.

“How do we know that you didn’t bring that with you?,” Coury asked.

One of his friends gave him credit though.

Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Jason Hook replied, “You got one!”

By the way, Sixx was equipped well for the excursion.  He posted another photo with his fishing rod and net, along with a guitar (of course).

“Sorry Monday but I won’t be available today,” Sixx said.

“Do I hear “I don’t like Mondays” by Todd Rungren playing in the background?,” replied bandmate Tommy Lee.

Anyone following Motley Cruë’s bassist Nikki Sixx on Instagram knows how he feels about Wyoming: he loves it.

The rocker and his family, moved out to Teton County over a month ago and it’s pretty close to heaven, he says.

“The 2 places I’ve felt closest to God is in Alaska and Wyoming,” Sixx wrote on his Instagram account on Monday. “Being relocated in Wyoming most of the time, I am feeling reconnected to some new creativity already.”

“Every now and again in life you need to rethink your purpose here. Right now I am here to reset, restart and recreate,” he said.

Sixx said he was spending his time in Teton County writing a book, writing a musical, and looking forward to the Cruë’s next world tour.

“These mountains, the wide open spaces, the people and the wildlife is grounding to me,” Sixx wrote.  “Really excited about the future but no time like the present to look back and reflect. I am not running away from anything, I am running head-on towards something new.”

While posing in a swimming pool with his wife and daughter, Sixx posted the lyrics to the John Denver’s “Song of Wyoming”

Sixx also posted an adorable video of some Dad-time with his baby daughter.

Although there will be plenty of people who don’t consider Teton County part of Wyoming, we’re just happy he’s happy (and contributing to the tax base).
