U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney did not have kind words to say after voting against the House of Representatives’ coronavirus relief bill on Thursday.

The House passed a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package on Thursday, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated he wouldn’t support any legislation that cost more than $2 trillion, according to CBS News.

Cheney called the bill a “cynical partisan” one and said Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refused to deal with the coronavirus crisis.

“Time and again, we have watched her block relief, refuse to negotiate and delay progress,” Cheney said in a statement. “The Democrats are wasting invaluable time and turning their backs on the American people.”

The representative added that Congress should be providing assistance to families, workers, small businesses, agriculture and energy producers in Wyoming and across America. But, she continued, Pelosi has found ways to fund Green New Deal-style programs and send taxpayer money to illegal immigrants, arguments she has regularly touted.

She added that Pelosi has changed election laws to “rig the process for Democrats.”

Cheney also criticized the bill for “cut[ting] money for our law enforcement officials, building on the Democrats’ commitment to defund the police.”

“Speaker Pelosi has fundamentally failed America and her decision to stand in the way of a common sense relief bill is the latest example of that,” Cheney said.

Cheney: America Must Invest In Defense To Deter China

America must invest in its military to deter threats from China, according to U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney.

Cheney, a member of the China Task Force created in May to look into threats posed to America’s freedom and security by the Chinese government, said the committee found that China is expanding its military footprint around the world and is preparing measures to counteract America’s defense systems.

Speaking during a news conference Wednesday to unveil the task force’s final report, Cheney said China’s activities require continued reliable funding for the country’s defenses, including its nuclear forces.

“We must modernize our nuclear triad,” she said. “It’s crucial to deterring the Chinese Communist Party and we must also develop and field conventional capabilities that are critical to countering the Chinese Communist Party in the Indo-Pacific in particular.”

Cheney said the United States must also modernize its sea and air power and develop new operational concepts to counter China’s nuclear missiles.

The military investment is especially important given the nature of the conflict between America and China, Cheney said.

“It is very important for everyone to note that we are in the midst of a battle between freedom and totalitarianism,” she said. “The question we all face is whether the United States and our allies will set the rules of the road into the future or whether the Chinese Communist Party and that authoritarian, totalitarian regime will set the rules of the road.”

The recommendations for military spending were among hundreds included in the report. Other recommendations dealt with issues including trade agreements and human rights issues.

When the task force was created, it was a bipartisan group that included Democrats as well as the 15 Republicans who ultimately issued the report.

Democrats withdrew from the task force the day before it was to begin its work, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, saying it was an attempt at “diversion” by Republicans.

Cheney criticized the Democrats for their decision.

“At a moment where we are facing, I think, what is a generational threat, it is too bad that the Democrats refused to join us on this report,” she said.

Cheney said two-thirds of the task force’s recommendations are bipartisan in nature and urged Democrats to work with the Republicans in seeking approval for the measures.

“…(I)n order for us to defeat the threat from China, we’ve got to work in a bipartisan fashion,” she said. “So we call on Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats once again to stop putting their personal political interests ahead of the interests of the security of this country and join us in helping to put in place some of these recommendations.”

Cheney: Constitution Requires Peaceful Transfer Of Power

In the wake of comments made by President Donald Trump regarding the possible transfer of power after the presidential election, U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney issued a reminder about the constitutional requirements for the transfer of power.

Cheney, in a tweet issued Thursday morning, wrote that a peaceful transfer of power was enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and fundamental to the survival of the republic.

“America’s leaders swear an oath to the Constitution,” she wrote. “We will uphold that oath.”

On Wednesday during a news conference, Trump was asked by a reporter whether he would commit to a peaceful transfer of power following the election if he lost to Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

The reporter noted that earlier this year, there was rioting in Louisville, Kentucky, the city where EMT Breonna Taylor was killed in a nighttime raid on her apartment by police while she was sleeping.

On Wednesday, a grand jury brought up three charges of wanton endangerment against former officer Brett Hankison, who was fired after Taylor’s death, for shooting into a home next to Taylor’s where people were inside, according to the Associated Press.

Protests broke out following the grand jury’s decision and two officers were shot in Louisville.

After the reporter brought up riots in Louisville, he questioned whether or not the president would commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he lost the election.

“Well, we’re going to have to see what happens,” Trump responded. “You know that. I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster.”

When the reporter asked again about Trump committing to the transfer, the president remarked it wouldn’t be transfer of power, but a continuation, implying he would win the November election.

Cheney: Americans Are Sick Of Dems Ignoring Constitution

in Liz Cheney/News

By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily

U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney told Fox News this week that Congressional Democrats are desperate if they are considering impeaching President Donald Trump for nominating a replacement for the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

In a short segment, Cheney responded to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s comments on CNN, when the Democratic representative said Republicans would be “paying the price for elections to come” if they nominated Ginsberg’s replacement before the presidential election.

Cheney said that Trump was doing his constitutional duty by nominating a Supreme Court replacement. She anticipated that the Senate would confirm the nominee.

This would be the president’s second Supreme Court nomination, following Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Cheney also said the American people are sick of Democrats’ calls to abolish the Electoral College, although it should be noted that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden doesn’t agree with this argument.

“The more the Democrats act as though they’re willing to burn the whole place down, that they do not believe in the Constitution, the more threats they make about court packing, the more the American people are just sick of it,” she said.

Cheney: Our Cities Are Burning Because Dems Won’t Stand Up To Thugs

By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily

U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney continued to speak out against Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and vice president nominee Sen. Kamala Harris this week.

On Tuesday, Cheney delivered remarks at a House Republican news event regarding the GOP’s “Commitment to America” agenda, which calls for restoring American ideals and rebuilding the economy.

She noted the importance of participating in the general election in November, describing it as being critical to future legislation regarding the coronavirus, the economy, the military and “our founding values.”

“Every single day, the Democrats tell us what they would do in…’a Harris administration with Joe Biden,'” Cheney said. “They would defund our police, dismantle our freedom, destroy our history and abandon our founding values.”

Cheney continued to criticize the Democratic party in her speech, blaming Democratic administrations’ policies for this year’s wildfires in the West Coast states.

She also blamed unrest, violence and looting seen in several cities across the nation on the failure of Democrat leaders to enforce laws in their communities.

“Our cities are burning because Democrats won’t stand up against the rioting of thugs who are destroying the lives built by hard-working Americans over decades,” the representative said.

Neither did Cheney mince words when discussing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, whom Cheney has commented about many times in the past. She called the House speaker a “partisan hack” during her speech.

“The Democrats leading this House care so little about the American people that they have squandered 17 months trying to score political points while our nation faces unprecedented challenges,” she said.

The representative closed her comments by reiterating that the Republican party will continue to fight for American values and return power to the people all across the republic.

“We’ll make sure that our children know the unparalleled contribution to freedom this nation has made, and that they know that we enjoy the blessings of every one of those freedoms because of the men and women who wear the uniform of this country and who have sworn to protect us all,” she said.

By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily

U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney and a number of her colleagues are inquiring about the Walt Disney Company’s cooperation with the Chinese government during the production of the “Mulan” remake.

A letter from members of Congress including Cheney was sent to Disney CEO Bob Chapek on Friday about Disney’s work with security and propaganda authorities in Xinjiang, an autonomous region of China where part of the movie was filmed.

The letter asks Chapek to explain why Disney filmed parts of “Mulan” in the Xinjiang Uighar Autonomous Region and why members of the film crew were required to cooperate with local security and “propaganda” elements.

In the letter from bipartisan group of lawmakers, members of Congress tell Chapek that Disney’s actions “offers tacit legitimacy to these perpetrators of crimes that may warrant the designation of genocide.”

The letter also asks Chapek to explain whether Disney has a policy about cooperating with entities that are “known human rights abusers” and to detail regions in the U.S. or the world where Disney has refused to film or engage in production for other than economic reasons.

It has been documented that the Chinese Communist Party is keeping Uighur Muslims in concentration camps in the Xinjiang Uighar Autonomous Region.

Legislators who joined Cheney in signing the letter included U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Massachusetts, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Sens. Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, both R-Florida, and U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-New Jersey.

“Mulan” was released in late September on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+ and can be viewed for a $30 premium fee. The film’s production cost around $200 million.

Cheney Slams Biden, Pelosi For Not Speaking Out Against Defunding The Police

in Liz Cheney/News/politics

By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily

In signing a pledge offering “unwavering” support for America’s police officers, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney blasted former Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for not condemning the “Defund The Police” movement.

“I proudly signed Heritage Action’s ‘Police Pledge,’ which states that we unequivocally support our police officers & will oppose any effort to defund them,” Cheney tweeted. “Our police officers in Wyoming & across the country are heroes & they deserve to be treated as such.”

“Democrats like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, who don’t speak out against the reckless campaign to ‘defund’ our police, are irresponsible and dangerous,” she said.

This wasn’t the first time Cheney slammed Pelosi this week. On Wednesday, Cheney took a swipe against the House Speaker for using a hair salon in San Francisco when all hair salons are supposed to be closed due to the pandemic.

“Hairpocrisy,” Cheney tweeted while posting a story of Pelosi’s ill-fated trip.

In related news, President Trump on Friday received an endorsement from the Fraternal Order of Police.

“Public safety will undoubtedly be a main focus for voters in this year’s election,” a spokesman for the organization said. “Look at what the national discourse has focused on for the last six months. President Trump has shown time after time that he supports our law enforcement officers and understands the issues our members face every day.”

Liz Cheney on Nancy Pelosi Hair Salon Scandal: “Hairpocrisy!”

in Liz Cheney/News

***For All Things Wyoming, Sign-Up For Our Daily Newsletter***

We know U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney is no fan of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and many times will jump at the opportunity to throw a barb her way — and usually they’re pretty funny.

With the controversy erupting over Pelosi going to a hair salon when all hair salons are closed in San Francisco, Cheney jumped again.

You don’t need to be longwinded to make a point and Cheney wasn’t.

“Hairpocrisy!” Cheney tweeted along with the hashtags “PelosiBlowout#.”

Cheney wasn’t alone in the criticism. President Trump joined the chorus of condemnation on Thursday afternoon when he chided Pelosi twice (so far).

Of course, like anything in the social media world, if you agree with the individual’s statement, you think it’s great.  If you disagree, it’s an anathema, an absolute disgrace, and a misuse of time.

Commenters didn’t disappoint.  Those who supported Cheney’s statement, said so.

“So it’s the hair stylists fault that the Congresswoman didn’t know the law? Really? The arrogance…,” said one Tweeter referencing Pelosi’s claim that she was set up.

Those who didn’t support Cheney’s tweet said so too.

“Great use of your energy,” said one disgruntled respondent.

“Liz never fails to disappoint with her insightful and intelligent perspective on the very crucial issues that impact all Americans,” said another.

Whether you agree or disagree with Cheney, her Twitter account is fun to follow.

Liz Cheney: Socialism Has Chokehold On The Dems

in Liz Cheney/News/politics

***For All Things Wyoming, Sign-Up For Our Daily Newsletter***

By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily

U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney appeared on Fox and Friends Wednesday morning to talk the Democratic National Convention, hours after she won the Wyoming primary election.

Cheney hasn’t been shy about her voicing her opinion about the Democratic presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, respectively. Last week, she tweeted that Harris was a “radical liberal” who wanted to raise taxes and take away guns.

On the Wednesday morning appearance, Cheney said that if Biden and other Democrats won the general election in November, the country wouldn’t see an economic recovery.

“The economic policies that we have seen from President [Donald] Trump and from the Republicans in the House and the Senate over the course of last three-and-a-half years, the cuts in regulation, the cuts in taxes, those are the kinds of things that we have to see to bring the economy back again, to get people back to work,” she said.

“Socialism, which is the promise of Bernie Sanders and A[lexandria] O[casio] C[ortez], they have a chokehold on the Democratic platform, on Joe Biden’s policies going forward. They are the ones that will be setting the policy into the future. That would be an absolute devastation for this country.”

She added that Sanders, Ocasio Cortez and Biden were advocating for socialism while destroying the nation.

Cheney praised Trump’s work on illegal immigration during her Fox appearance, saying his border wall was important because Democrats wanted to use taxpayer funds to give free health care to illegal immigrants.

She also touched on former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s appearance at the DNC, criticizing his work on the Iran nuclear deal framework in 2015.

The representative ended her appearance with a critique of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Party, saying Pelosi “failed to lead.”

“[Republicans] feel really good about our chances to take a message to the American people that we are the party that is going to bring back economic recovery, that’s going to bring back national security, defeat this virus, and get the economy going again,” she said.

Liz Cheney: Kamala Harris Is A “Radical Liberal”

in Liz Cheney/News/politics

By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily

U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney didn’t mince words this week after Joe Biden announced that U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris would be his vice presidential pick.

“Kamala Harris is a radical liberal who would raise taxes, take away guns & health insurance, and explode the size and power of the federal government,” Cheney wrote on Twitter. “She wants to recreate America in the image of what’s happening on the streets of Portland & Seattle. We won’t give her the chance.”

Cheney followed up that tweet with a retweet of a Fox News report, adding more comments about Harris. She said the California senator had a more liberal voting record than U.S. Sens. Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

The representative repeated her assertions that Harris wants to raise taxes, ban gun sales and eliminate private health insurance. She added Harris also wants to use taxpayer money for abortions and illegal immigrant health care.

“Would be devastating for America,” she wrote.

Cheney also retweeted a post about Harris by GOP national spokeswoman Elizabeth Harrington, which featured similar claims. It also included comments about Harris wanting to have a “conversation” about lowering the voting age from 18 and letting terrorists vote from prison.
